Yes, I agree that Google is a mighty online giant but they don’t have the power to satisfy everyone. With the introduction of GreaseMonkey scripts that can change how a web page in a browser behaves, Gmail users have started to create scripts that change the way it looks, minimally sometimes, but it is worth the while.
Here are my selection of 10 Greasemonkey scripts to change Gmail looks and feel (in no particular order!):-
1- Gmail Lite
Gmail Lite will remove the Star, Google GTalk window, ads from conversation view, the footer, and relocates the mailbox quota on top for better viewing. It has been named Lite, so I expect you know what Lite is.
2- Gmail Air Skin
Gmail Air Skin, a greasemonkey script by David Carver will change buttons on your Gmail with transparency, rounded effects. The fonts will be easier to read with a clean cut interface. One of user’s favorites.
3- Gmail With Different Attachment Icons
This greasemonkey script will add a different attachment icon on the left of your email documents view based on the document format, instead of the normal, lame paper clip icon.

4- Gmail Conversation Preview
The picture said it all. With Gmail Conversation Preview, a right click on a message in Messages View will give you a quick preview of your email contents. Really out of the box thinking.

5- Gmail Mail Customize / Gmail Beautifier
This greasemonkey script is quite similar to Gmail Lite but it moves the mail quota usage to the left of Gmail’s interface, the background has been changed to white and click-able buttons now are in a minimalist, white colored design. And it makes ad disappears from the Conversation View too!

6- Gmail Colorizer
Gmail Colorizer greasemonkey script adds different colors to messages based on the labels on the Messages View. You can’t help but notice that the labels are so small, so a little dash of color are most welcomed to differentiate things.

7- Gmail + Google Reader
Read email from your Gmail and Google Reader from the same interface? This greasemonkey scripts does that by inserting a “Feeds” link on Gmail. Love this.

8- Gmail + Google Calendar
I love an email application that comes with a calendar within the same interface. This script teaches Google how to do that by inserting a “Calendar” link inside Gmail.

9- Gmail Skin
Gmail Skin is another Gmail skin for Gmail. Hahaha. Sorry for the tongue twister. The author named it so and there is nothing I can do about that. Create an online petition if you are not satisfied. But check out the picture, it is quite extreme don’t you think so?
10 - Gmail Super Clean
There is a reason why I put this one last. It is because I think this is the coolest gmail changing greasemonkey script of them all. The picture above said it all. At first, you can’t recognize it was actually Gmail! Hail Gmail Super Clean!

And check out below for the original Gmail interface, Google can do better don’t they? I will leave that open for discussion.
